What good 1:1s look like
A few signals that a manager-IC 1:1 is creating real value rather than just consuming time.
Useful 1:1s usually have three traits:
- They create new information, not just status repetition.
- They make it safer to surface ambiguity early.
- They help both people leave with a clearer next move.
If a 1:1 could be replaced by a dashboard, it is probably underdesigned.
